Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange an initial consultation?

If you would like to book a first appointment please call me on 07920 465235 or send me an email to enquiries@jennifercornishpsychotherapy.co.uk.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

I aim to offer you an appointment within a week of first contact. However, during periods of high demand this may not be possible.

Can I see you outside of office hours?

I do not work in the mornings but offer afternoon and evening appointments six days a week.

What can I expect from a first appointment?

This will be very important as we can decide what is going to be helpful for you. You will probably feel very anxious but I am very understanding and experienced and I will help you to manage these feelings. The assessment will give you an opportunity to see how I work and ask questions about the process. I will make my recommendations about future sessions and direction at the end of the session. This does not mean you are committed to ongoing sessions as it is important that you feel comfortable with the process.

What happens if we agree to work together?

We discuss goals for therapy and how we will work together to achieve them. It is best practice to attend every week at the same time but sometimes this is not possible and I can be flexible around your requirements.

How long will it take?

I offer short term therapy and open ended therapy. Short term therapy can be 6-20 sessions depending on progress. I review progress every session so that gives you an opportunity to tell me what is and what is not working for you.

Are sessions confidential?

I do not routinely inform your GP about our therapy sessions. If I became concerned that you may be in danger of self-harming or harming others I will need to speak to your GP and that is why I take details of your GP during your therapy. I will always try to seek your permission before I speak to the GP, but in situations of high risk this may not always be possible. I am committed to regular supervision of my practice and am bound by the code of ethics laid down by my professional organisations.

Are you able to provide me with reports?

I can provide reports by request for an additional fee. This varies depending on complexity. I do not comment on capacity to work.
